No Pictures, Please
Dear Mr. Smart T. Pants:
With apologies to dogs, we all know that cats rule the Internet. We OWN it. Hundreds of millions of cute cat videos and shared photos have made international celebrities of kitties such as the late Grumpy Cat, Lil Bub, Waffles and Nala Cat. And such fame has done wonderful things for felines, bringing them tremendous attention, so more people know, love, and help cats.
Some kitties love that role, lapping up the attention they deserve. But not all cats crave the spotlight. We personally are not thrilled at posing for pictures (which is why our human has so many shots of blurred fur and closed eyes!). We even go so far as to hide in a handy paper bag to dodge the camera. Our late roommate Kelsey, who sensed the camera's click even before it did, would meow a warning and turn her head.
Are we wrong to prize our privacy instead of always being camera-ready and J-Lo-famous?
Starli and Shamrock
Dear Starli and Shamrock:
Not every cat (or dog) craves the spotlight. But humans, who are always taking pictures of something, do not understand that. The classic head turn is one of the best ways to avoid the paparazzi but at the same time give your human a “picture”. But hiding whether it be in a paper bag, under the bed, in the sink or in a wastepaper basket are all effective techniques to avoid camera crazed parents. Whatever you do, don’t give them one adorable picture of you, for they will continue to want more and more. I know this first hand.
Thank you my feline friends for writing in!
