It’s A Matter of Trust
Dear Mr. Pants,
I need your advice - how do you know when you can trust a human?
You see, I was born in a barn and some would label me a feral cat. But over the years, the family that found me and my mother have taken good care of us. They let us live in their house, feed us and even play with us with some kind of feather thing. My mom took to all this attention right away, but not me. But recently the humans have been in the house a lot more and I am getting used to them and their attention. Now if I sit on the sofa, they pet me and give me treats. I have to admit I kind of like it, but I am still a little scared to trust them.
What do you think? Should I trust them?

Dear Rita:
Thank you for your courage for writing in. You have asked a tough question and really only you in your heart can decide when it is time to trust a human. But since this is an advice column, I will give you mine.
You have lived with your humans for quite awhile and they have done everything to make you comfortable and happy. And it appears they only want to shower you with more love and attention. This is a good thing and to be honest, you may be missing out on treats! So I say go for it! Now if you feel the need to retreat a little because you feel afraid sometimes - do it. But do not deny yourself the love that you obviously deserve.
Let me know how it goes.
Mr. Smart T. Pants
