What We Really Really Want
Dear Mr. Smart T. Pants,
Every year at this time my humans wrap up a variety of things for me. To be honest, while I like the toys and treats, I really just like ripping open the packages. Do you have any advice for the humans on what to give their pets for Christmas?
Thankful in Cleveland
Dear Thankful,
What a great question! The best advice I can give the humans is to know what your pet likes and dislikes and then choose the appropriate gift. If your pet doesn’t play with toys but likes to snuggle in a cozy soft bed, then that is what the present should be. If your pet loves toys but can shred them up in seconds, get one that is for strong chewers. And if you choose “clothes” for your pet make sure that they fit correctly, they are easy to get on and off and we can move about in them. Sometimes a warm coat is just perfect, but booties maybe not so much.
But I will let you in on a little secret. What pets truly want more than toys or treats or clothes. To quote a famous Christmas song - “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. We want you to spend time with us - whether it is playing ball, going for a walk through the park or snuggling together on the couch. Spending time with our owners is the greatest gift a human can give any pet. Remember our gift to you is our unconditional love.
Merry Christmas,
Mr. Smart T. Pants
